We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join our established maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong background in machine maintenance, fault finding, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and continuous improvement to develop their career within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

As a key member of the engineering team, you will play a vital role in ensuring production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of plant machinery and equipment, responding to breakdowns, and supporting continuous improvements to maximise equipment uptime and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with the maintenance schedule.
  • Respond promptly to machine breakdowns, diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Perform mechanical and basic electrical maintenance on production plant and machinery.
  • Fault find and repair mechanical systems including gearboxes, bearings, drives and associated equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Work collaboratively with on-site contractors and remote service engineers during maintenance activities and equipment installations.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, breakdown reports and completed work using the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
  • Monitor and maintain stock levels of critical spare parts, ensuring availability to support production.
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades and continuous improvement projects.
  • Mentor and support engineering apprentices, sharing knowledge and promoting engineering best practice.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and engineering standards.
  • Contribute to improving equipment reliability, efficiency and overall manufacturing performance.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working as part of a close-knit engineering team, and making a real impact on production performance.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A recognised engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
  • A minimum of four years' industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and fault finding on production machinery.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding skills with a good understanding of gearboxes, conveyors, bearings and rotating equipment.
  • A sound understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors and external service engineers.
  • A proactive approach with a strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
  • A willingness to mentor apprentices and support the development of less experienced team members.
  • Flexibility to work overtime when required to support production, planned shutdowns and departmental holiday or sickness cover.

Shift Pattern

The Maintenance Department operates a four-shift rotation:

  • Shift 1: Monday to Friday – 6:00am to 2:00pm
  • Shift 2: Monday to Friday – 2:00pm to 10:00pm
  • Shift 3: Monday to Friday – 10:00pm to 6:00am
  • Shift 4: Thursday to Sunday – 6:00am to 4:00pm

Applicants must be able to work all shifts as part of the rotating shift pattern.

Not a bad word I can say about this agency, very polite via phone and very polite in person. They explained everything in full to me before offering me a 12-week temp to perm position and even taking me to the site where I will be working to meet the management and to show me around. I would highly recommend this agency as based on my experience with other agencies this is by far the best experience I have had! I am certain that these guys would go out of their way to help anyone gain some work

Having worked with KHR for over 6 years, I have found them to offer and deliver the highest levels of value, customer service and care alike. They have become our trusted partner and now operate on a sole supply basis and are seen as an extension of our own team due to the ability to supply class leading staff whenever required who are both inducted and knowledgeable in all aspects of our operation saving valuable man hours from my team’s perspective and that all colleagues supplied are warehouse/dept ready from the outset.

The close working relationship, and a full understanding of our business needs are demonstrated by KHR in the recruitment function that we engage with them in. KHR fulfilling our business needs through the recruitment of ‘team members’ not just staff.

Regular visits to our site by the KHR recruitment team with new personnel, engaging with our Production Manager and the team leaders alike. The communication from the walk round visits led by our production team instil a thorough understanding of our requirements, ethics, and values.
