We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join our established maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer with a strong background in machine maintenance, fault finding, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and continuous improvement to develop their career within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
As a key member of the engineering team, you will play a vital role in ensuring production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably. You will be responsible for maintaining a wide range of plant machinery and equipment, responding to breakdowns, and supporting continuous improvements to maximise equipment uptime and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with the maintenance schedule.
- Respond promptly to machine breakdowns, diagnosing faults and carrying out effective repairs to minimise downtime.
- Perform mechanical and basic electrical maintenance on production plant and machinery.
- Fault find and repair mechanical systems including gearboxes, bearings, drives and associated equipment.
- Diagnose and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Work collaboratively with on-site contractors and remote service engineers during maintenance activities and equipment installations.
- Accurately record maintenance activities, breakdown reports and completed work using the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System).
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of critical spare parts, ensuring availability to support production.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades and continuous improvement projects.
- Mentor and support engineering apprentices, sharing knowledge and promoting engineering best practice.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company Health & Safety policies and engineering standards.
- Contribute to improving equipment reliability, efficiency and overall manufacturing performance.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working as part of a close-knit engineering team, and making a real impact on production performance.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A recognised engineering qualification, such as NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical or Multi-Skilled Engineering.
- A minimum of four years' industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and fault finding on production machinery.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills with a good understanding of gearboxes, conveyors, bearings and rotating equipment.
- A sound understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, contractors and external service engineers.
- A proactive approach with a strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
- A willingness to mentor apprentices and support the development of less experienced team members.
- Flexibility to work overtime when required to support production, planned shutdowns and departmental holiday or sickness cover.
Shift Pattern
The Maintenance Department operates a four-shift rotation:
- Shift 1: Monday to Friday – 6:00am to 2:00pm
- Shift 2: Monday to Friday – 2:00pm to 10:00pm
- Shift 3: Monday to Friday – 10:00pm to 6:00am
- Shift 4: Thursday to Sunday – 6:00am to 4:00pm
Applicants must be able to work all shifts as part of the rotating shift pattern.
