My client is a bespoke specialist services provider, primarily to the rail industry, but also within the utilities and local authority sectors. They are based in Rayleigh, Essex, with regional offices located in Kent, Humberside, and Durham and their RUAS UAV services office in Newport, Wales.
The client aims to be the preferred supplier for a total aerial Arboricultural Management Service to the rail, utility and local authority sectors.

Role Description
This is a full-time role for an Ecologist, requiring flexibility for remote / on-site work.
Candidates should ideally be located with 90 minutes travel from our Rayleigh office, as this role has some office-based requirements, but hybrid working will be available.
• As an Ecologist, you will be responsible for site visits to undertake study and surveys of animal, plants, and the environment to ensure the collection of accurate ecological data. This will be primarily on rail infrastructure, but may also be on lineside neighbouring properties, or the property of non-rail clients
• Production of Preliminary Ecological Assessments
• Production of Ecological Impact Assessments
• Production of ecological reports and specifications and identifying and recording details of habitats and species
• Protected species – surveys, reports, management and protection
• Develop and promote positive working relationships throughout the organisation and with client senior management, through liaising with clients, the companies and client project managers and stakeholders
• Working within the clients Environmental and Sustainability Division, in association with the clients’’ Arboriculturists
• Providing expert advice on environmental / ecological legislation
• To work in conjunction with the clients’ UAV Operations to analyse aerial drone footage, and assess findings
• Using the DEFRA Biodiversity Metric to calculate biodiversity scoring
• Undertaking BNG surveys, and production of reports and site management
• As an Ecological Clerk of works (ECOW); to ensure ecological and environmental safety and contractual compliance, in accordance with environmental legislation, company policy & procedures, project specifications and Network Rail Standards
• Any other duties that may be deemed within the remit of an ecologist
To be considered for this role, you will have:
Essential
• An Ecology Degree
• CIEEM membership - ACIEEM or working towards is a minimum
• Full UK driving licence
• Excellent report writing capabilities, with the ability to work to a set deadline
Desirable
• Protected species license(s)
• Demonstrable ecological consultancy experience
• Understanding of Network Rail Biodiversity Standards.
The client will provide all Personal Track Safety and DZEP (Highspeed 1) training, a suitable vehicle and fuel card and all PPE and equipment required to carry out the role.
There is a requirement to work across the UK, which may require some overnight stays. The client will provide accommodation for any overnight stays.
Salary – up to £38k pa (dependant on experience etc.)
Holiday entitlement – 20 days pa (may be upped to 25 dependant on experience etc.) Pension – current company contribution is at least 3%, employee may opt out.
